Below is our pitch for our film. These are just the initial ideas, so a lot of details can be tweaked and changed as we film. Not much blog here, it's kind of a vlog instead. Except it isn't much of a vlog either, it's just a presentation.
And here is the PowerPoint itself without us talking over it.
In the initial ideas, we're aiming for somewhat of a mix between a psychological thriller mixed with an action thriller, with some sprinkles of postmodern irony thrown in. However, that might change depending on what we do - a lot of the team are leaning more on the action thriller side, so we might just focus on that more to give the target audience more action. We might also make the atmosphere somewhat darker, so that the dealings made in the opening feel shadier. We also might change some of the characters around - the fact that the characters are Russian and Chinese and that the "good guys" are American are, I believe, completely arbitrary, are actually might help to build stereotypes of the evil Russian or Chinese man, harkening back to the red and yellow scares of history. I believe that we should have an inverse of the stereotype.
We might also make the opening more philosophical to fit our tastes better. The main point of the film is to criticize the position modern media has on our lives, and I believe that point should be pushed further to the point where it works in harmony with the action or even surpasses it in importance. I believe that the film should be more postmodern, too, as it deals with the postmodern condition. I was inspired by such writers as David Foster Wallace and Don DeLillo in the development of the plot, and I believe that there should be some sort of an artistic nod to them.
